Transforming hybrid cloud operations: How a leading credit union is future-proofing with rSeries and F5 Insight

F5 ADSP | August 19, 2026

For modern financial institutions, agility and digital reliability are not competitive advantages; they are baseline business requirements. Recently, a leading community credit union with over $10 billion in assets, dozens of branches, and more than 2,200 employees found itself at a critical infrastructure crossroads.

With a goal of adding two to four new branches annually and supporting a rapidly growing mobile banking user base, the credit union’s small IT team was stretched thin. To sustain its growth and ensure uninterrupted service, the credit union needed to modernize its application delivery infrastructure.

By upgrading to next-generation F5 rSeries hardware and adopting F5 Insight for ADSP, the organization is aligning to a platform approach, completely transforming how it operationalizes and manages its application delivery and security fleet at enterprise scale.

The challenge: The bottleneck of manual operations in a hybrid world

The credit union operates a true hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure. Its critical mobile application traffic is handled by F5 BIG-IP Virtual Editions (VEs) deployed in Microsoft Azure, while its internal and public-facing web applications are routed through hardware appliances in its primary on-premises data center.

Despite having robust traffic management and security capabilities in place, the IT team was burdened by an outdated operational model. Managing its application delivery meant manually logging into each individual BIG-IP device to make changes, check statuses, or troubleshoot issues. For a lean IT team responsible for supporting ongoing operations and the desire for constant branch expansion, this box-by-box management workflow was unsustainable.

Furthermore, a hardware refresh was imminent. The credit union’s existing BIG-IP iSeries appliances were approaching a critical end-of-support milestone. The organization required better vCPU performance to handle its growing traffic and meet strict regulatory compliance requirements, without being held back by operational friction. Remaining supported, secure, and full of performance headroom was critical to meeting these ongoing requirements.

By moving from manual, fragmented device management to a unified interface that spans its deployments with F5 Insight, the credit union expects to realize immediate operational dividends.

The solution: rSeries investment and F5 Insight for ADSP

Rather than simply replacing old hardware with new hardware, the credit union recognized the need to elevate its approach to operations.

First, the organization invested in high-performance F5 rSeries appliances to replace its legacy iSeries boxes in the data center. This hardware refresh immediately provides the advanced vCPU compute power necessary to comfortably handle resource-intensive encrypted traffic loads and expanding network traffic from additional branches.

Second—and most crucially for the IT team's day-to-day operations—the credit union adopted F5 Insight for ADSP to centralize and modernize its approach to visibility and management.

Originally exploring solutions just for basic observability, the team quickly realized that F5 Insight’s latest fleet management capabilities offered the exact operational clarity it had been missing. And with F5’s commitment to providing regularly scheduled hardened releases to help customers adapt to the post Mythos era, F5 Insight will help drive more scalable and repeatable operations.

Expected benefits: Operationalizing the fleet at enterprise scale

By moving from manual, fragmented device management to a unified interface that spans its deployments with F5 Insight, the credit union expects to realize immediate operational dividends. F5 Insight empowers the organization to manage its hybrid fleet—both the on-premises rSeries hardware and the Azure VEs—seamlessly at enterprise scale.

The anticipated benefits of this implementation include:

  • Centralized operational clarity: A single pane of glass to view the health, performance, and status of the entire application delivery infrastructure across their hybrid environment.
  • Proactive compliance and patch management: The ability to easily ensure all devices are up-to-date and compliant with financial industry regulations, significantly reducing audit anxieties.
  • Misconfiguration detection: Automated identification of configuration drifts or errors before they can cause downtime or security vulnerabilities.
  • Empowered application owners: Providing app owners with direct visibility into their application's performance metrics, reducing the strain of constant application-specific troubleshooting on the small network team.
  • Seamless routing optimization: Ensuring that data is properly routed without downtime, even during maintenance windows or traffic spikes.

The AI advantage: A force multiplier for lean teams

While the fleet management capabilities solved the credit union’s core infrastructure challenges, it was F5 Insight’s AI-enhanced features that truly won the team over.

During the demonstration, the customer had an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the built-in AI assistant. Instead of hunting through complex dashboards or parsing endless logs, the IT team can now use natural language data queries to instantly understand what is happening in its environment.

More importantly, the AI assistant acts as a direct extension of the credit union’s small team by automatically generating prioritized to-do lists and clear action items based on the fleet's telemetry. This shifts the organization’s operational posture from reactive troubleshooting to proactive optimization. If a vulnerability is detected or a patch is required, the AI assistant surfaces it immediately as a prioritized action item, complete with the context needed to resolve it.

Looking ahead

As the credit union rolls out its new rSeries appliances and activates F5 Insight, it’s leaving manual device management in the past. With a powerful new hardware foundation and AI-driven fleet management providing total operational clarity, the credit union’s lean IT team is no longer just keeping the lights on—it’s fully equipped for continual expansion and digital innovation.
